The radiological laboratory within the QA department of a pharmaceutical manufacturing company situated in Petten, The Netherlands was analysing inbound, intermediate and final pharmaceutical products and required a quantity of fume cupboards to handle acids, bases, toxic and flammable liquids but primarily radioactive sources supported by lead shielding to block radiation.
Cleaning and decontamination were of major importance so we produced joint free, one-piece all stainless steel inner chambers with smooth radius internal corners. To seal and further protect the stainless steel from hydrochloric acid attack in particular the inner chambers were high gloss polyester powder coated. One of the fume cupboards was fitted with a manually activated foam filled fire-suppression system.
